Alanis Morissette was born on June 1st, 1974 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She was born to Alan and Georgia Morissette and was one of the three children born to them. She was fond of dancing and singing right from the very beginning and this also initiated her motives to learn ballet and jazz dancing at an age of seven.

At an age of 11 she did a television show called "You Can't Do That on Television". Alanis also appeared in the TV movie "Just One of the Girls" in 1993, which starred Corey Haim.

The most important reason which inspired her towards music was her admiration for music and character of Olivia Newton John. Alanis released her first ever single at the young age of eleven. The song was called "Fate Stay With Me", produced with money coming out of her own pocket. The song was not a hit at all yet she got a motive for a start.

Alanis was signed to MCA and she recorded her first album "ALANIS" in 1990. It was a big hit with major op music and dance and the album went platinum in Canada. She won a JUNO award as the most promising new female vocalist.

In 1992 was released "Now Is The Time" by MCA. Though this album was more mature than the first one yet it was less successful that "Alanis". The album however went platinum in Canada.

Though she was popular in canada but she was still an unknown figure in United States. But this changes too after she was signed to Madonna's Maverick Label. This did not bring the wanted success. then she met Glen Ballard through MCA publishing, and immediately two enjoyed each other's writing style. Her third release "JAGGED LITTLE PILL" showed a very different Alanis than in the previous two albums.

Apart from all this Alanis has been showered with a number of other awards. these have been industry awards for Jagged Little Pill, including Grammys for Album of the Year, Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album.
